Jacob Hamstra (1925-2009) emigrated from the Netherlands to Canada in 1947. He boarded the Tabinta in Rotterdam about September 11 and arrived in Montreal September 22, 1947. The Tabinta was an old freighter turned into a troop transport and below decks there were three tiers of bunks.
