This online lexicon has short biographies of influential women of the Netherlands and its overseas territories. Access to this lexicon is provided by Huygens ING, Huygens Instituut voor Nederlandse Geschiedenis (Huygens Institute for Netherlands History), which is an institute of the Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen (The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences).
The biographies are available by selecting "Zoeken & selecteren" on the website and entering a name. If the search results are not successful search for a close relative; the names of some people are mentioned in the biography of others as parents, children or spouses.
To search for a person listed in the references to this source, enter the first part of the name exactly as it is found in the citation. For example, to search for "Ada de Warenne" enter "Ada van Schotland"; Ada de Warenne will be mentioned in the biography of Ada van Schotland.
