Epistolae is a collection of letters to and from women in the Middle Ages, from the 4th to the 13th centuries. The letters were originally collected mainly from printed sources, and translated by Dr. Joan Ferrante, Professor Emerita of Columbia University.

In addition to the letters there are biographical notes of many medieval women. To search for a person listed in the references to this source, select the "Women" tab from the home page and in the "Search by keyword" box enter at least the first part of the name exactly as it is found in the numbered header in the reference list. For example, to search for "Baldwin V" enter "Adela/Adelaide"; Baldwin V will be mentioned in the biography of Adela/Adelaide, countess of Flanders.

There are several family trees available including the one from the Ottonian, Hohenstaufen, and Capetian Dynasties. This genealogical table lists the major descendants of Henry I, King of Germany (d. 936). To access this select the Genealogy tab on the home page and then select "2. Descendants of Matilda of Ringelheim and Henry I of Germany".

There is also a genealogy chart in pdf form which shows relationships of people mentioned in the Epistolae. To view this chart select the "Resources" tab from the home page, Under "Resource categories:" click on "Genealogy" and select the "Genealogy of women in Epistolae" link. Note that the text in this chart is not clear as of this date.
